Landscape artist Caroline Chappell creates paintings which express sensations, memories, and responses to the world around her. Bridle paths and drovers’ roads, ancient burial sites and stone circles, tracks and holloways all whisper their story.

Caroline’s creative process starts when she makes drawings and notes in the landscape with decisions about composition, size and medium beginning here. She works in her studio on the edge of the Cotswolds using a mixed-media multi-layered approach. Caroline explores the process of applying colour to a surface using feathers as well as more conventional palette knives and brushes, to develop ideas into paintings which reflect her initial experience of being in the landscape.
