Heather Shields
Heather Shields is a weaver and textile designer whose designs are characterised by clean linear forms, an intuitive approach to colour and a strong graphic edge.
Based in Gourock on the west coast of Scotland, Heather often draws inspiration from pattern and colour found in the everyday, from geology and coastal landscape to modernist architecture. Her practice often incorporates the use of a double cloth structure, usually associated with Welsh blanket weaving, to achieve a bold aesthetic and a luxuriously thick and durable cloth which is hard wearing and long lasting.
All of Heather’s pieces are woven from 100% wool, either by hand at her home studio or mill woven in small batches in the Scottish Borders. The mill woven fabric then returns to her studio to be meticulously stitched into blankets and cushions by both machine and hand stitching to achieve a finish of the highest quality which can be passed down through generations.
