Laura Middleton
Laura’s artwork is inspired by her passion for nature and ecology and has a keen interest on their influence on our well-being. Her gilded plaster artworks combine her skills developed as a specialist decorator with a painter’s eye.
Since 1993 Laura has developed a career in specialist decorating for interiors, working on site specific artworks for clients both internationally and in this country. She continues to work on commissions from her Oxfordshire studio whilst also producing smaller scale artworks and paintings.
The plaster impressions capture the structure and movement of meadow grasses, they are gilded, patinated and painted thereby celebrating nature as both delicate and precious. Her small abstract landscapes are drawn from life but also the memory of the immersive aspect of being surrounded by nature. Laura paints using watercolours on Gesso, employing softened brushwork and layering techniques to give an impressionistic quality of space, shapes and reflections. Derwent House is delighted to have a series of Laura’s small landscapes and large gilded panels on display.
