Sarah Tyssen

Weaver Sarah Tyssen designs limited-edition blankets on a handloom, combining her love of colour with luxuriously soft Merino wool.

After graduating from West Surrey College of Art and Design with a degree in woven textiles, Sarah Tyssen began her career as a designer at Morgan and Oates in Herefordshire, gaining a deep understanding of studio practice and commission weaving. Four years later, she established her own business, creating limited-edition blankets. Working from her Surrey workshop on a 16-shaft Louet Megado dobby loom, Sarah hand-weaves all initial samples before collaborating closely with a Yorkshire mill to produce small runs that match the quality and character of her originals.

Sarah’s design process is rooted in observation, experimentation, and a lifelong passion for colour. By playing with warps, structures and hues, she allows each piece to evolve on the loom. Working almost exclusively with Merino wool for its natural, sustainable and high-performance qualities. Sarah’s yarns—fleece-dyed for depth and luminosity—are produced to Woolmark and REACH standards.

Sarah lives and works at The Weaving House, an Arts and Crafts–era workshop originally built for the Haslemere Peasant Industries. She is proud to continue this legacy of craftsmanship and we are delighted to have a selection of Sarah’s blankets available to buy at Derwent House.
