Emma lives and works in Oxford. Her paintings are a celebration of her love of colour, texture and form. Sometimes she gives herself a limited palette of colours to work with, other times she lets loose with perhaps painting 20 different layers of colour before scratching, rubbing and sanding away to reveal elements of the earlier painting.
She works with acetate and masking tape to create sharp lines to contrast with the ‘scritchy-scratchy’ marks. Also using clear gesso and high gloss to accentuate different areas of the painting. The inspiration for the titles of her paintings comes from the music she listens to or events that are happening as she paints. Her work is framed in koto lime-washed hardwood tray frames, that are handmade in Oxford.
